FAQ

What is the lifespan of the blades in LUTZ cutter tool?

This question cannot be answered with a generally applicable number. The lifespan of our blades depends on several parameters, which have effect on tools and materials in the welding process. For example, the number of point welds before milling, the composition of the material in the work pieces and their surface coating and add to this the degree of contamination on the cap, amount of clamping force, 2- or 3- sheet welding, thickness of sheet pairs being welded, etc. With good ambient conditions, up to 30,000 milling cuts can be obtained with a single-blade cutter. A  quattro blade can increase this number. Incorrect settings and programming can have a considerable influence on the results.

What risks are there in the purchase of cheaper imitations?

Someone somewhere will always try to imitate good products. This also happens with LUTZ machines. Keep in mind that compliance with national and European regulations such as the new Machine Guidelines or time consuming documentation requirements make a product more expensive but in return contribute considerably to the safety of the operator. Imitations are generally marketed by smaller companies. Compliance with conformity regulations, ISO-requirements for quality assurance, and the like is usually questionable. As a rule, a small company cannot assure that operating instructions will be produced in all national languages, which is an absolute MUST for using our products in foreign countries.

Are there known imitations or pirate copies of LUTZ-Precision products?

As is common in many industries today, there have been attempted imitations and pirate copies from China. To date, they have had little success. A single case has been reported from Germany. This was a company with the same name from southern Germany. Of course, we warn you against buying pirate copies from smaller companies, which take on the appearance of larger size, as these companies often do not even survive past the warranty periods of their machines. With a view toward the long operation lifespan of our products, which is obtained through the highest quality standards, we guarantee the availability and delivery of replacement parts even for machines that are no longer included in our current product portfolio.

What types of caps can be milled with LUTZ cutter tools?

Along with our expansive standard program for all common pairs of caps, our construction department is at your side with the specialised solutions that you need.

Is the clamping force of the welding guns an important factor in milling results?

It is absolutely important! Keep in mind that on modern welding robots, the contact pressures displayed in the computer do not always exactly match the pressures that actually occur on the cutter tool. For this reason, it must be separately registered using a pressure sensor in order to assure the correct setting for the parameters in the milling process.

Is there a standard milling cutter for different contact pressures?

Logically, no! In order to increase the operational lifespan of an expensive cap, the cutter tool is selected so optimally that the lowest possible material removal always occurs. With a possible range of 0.8 to >3.0 kN pressure, this cannot be assured with a single type of cutter. For this reason we have different types of cutters in our product inventory, each of which encompasses a specific range.

What is decisive in the quality of a cutter tool?

First and foremost are the primary product characteristics, such as basic material, blade processing and surface coating. For permanent use in the cell, however, another decisive factor is how dimensionally stable the consumable materials are. Here we are talking about thousandths of a millimeter, i.e. micrometres: Do the spare blades have exactly the same dimensions and are these absolutely maintained in the series? Imitation products or pirated copies cannot meet such high standards of quality. The lost time and lower operational lifespans always cost the customer in the end.

How is replacement part supply assured at Lutz Precision?

We place a great deal of value on being present internationally in the most important production sites with our own offices. There we can make sure with our own warehouse inventories that parts and “best sellers” in the region are always on hand in our inventory.

How can I find out if a particular machine really meets my expectations?

Easy: Just speak with the director of our local office and ask him/her to provide you with a sample device for a specific period. He/she will certainly be glad to assist you with the installation and instruction in the use of the device!

We’re using tip dressers from AMDP. Are there LUTZ Precision cutter tools for them?

Certainly. We have the right inserts for all standard cutter tool for all common world-wide brands, such as Obara, Kyokutoh, Ravitex, Bräuer, AEG, Semtorq, etc. If you need a specialised configuration, we need the identification of the caps and the welding gun to properly offer the right cutter from LUTZ Precision. As a rule, you will get better milling results as soon as you start using it!
